WJDE 31 Update

I have never been able to receive WJDE channel 31, but I have been contacted by some of you that are having problems receiving the channel. So, I contacted them, and they replied.

"We had some issues with the signal. We hope to have it back on today."

So, there you have it. By the way, WRTN 6.x, WJDE 31.x, WCTZ 35.x, and WLLC 42.x are the only channels that I currently cannot receive. So, if anything else happens with those channels, please don't hesitate to contact me. I will try my best to find out anything I can with those stations when something like this happens. Until more news breaks, that's all for now.

RetroTV (6-2) is showing a black screen but with audio. (I did get a few intermittent, mildly pixelated images today.) For those of you who watch, you know this is one of the recurring problems. 6-4 is black with a high pitched whine, but I never watch it. I emailed Rick Goetz.

WNPX is Now Moving Repack Channel 32

Yes, you read it right, they are moving. It is because —

"ION was unable to reach accommodation with the tower landlord that would permit the station to continue operating from its current site. This forced ION to identify a new site for the station’s post-repack operations."

And that new site is located just south of Cross Plains west of I-65 in Robertson county. Why they chose that site —

"Before selecting the proposed tower location, ION performed a comprehensive analysis of available tower sites in the Nashville market. In the immediate vicinity of the current tower site, ION’s market analysis found no acceptable alternatives that would provide equivalent interference-free coverage as compared to the Station’s pre-auction or authorized post-auction facilities. ION was, however, able to identify an acceptable tower site to the northeast of the current authorized site."

So, there you have it. To some of you who watch WNPX via antenna and live south of Nashville, you will have a weaker signal or no signal at all when the repack comes. However, if you live north of Nashville maybe even in Kentucky, your signal will get better. Also, they will be going from 733kw where they are right now to 550kw. Well there you have it. By the way, I got the quotes from an FCC file. I am posting a link to the whole document below. It is a PDF file. Until more news breaks, that is all for now.

Two Stories in One Post

There are two stories that is breaking of late. One is that Meredith Corp. is getting out of the TV business meaning that they are planning to sell all their TV stations including WSMV. Now, who will purchase WSMV channel 4, I do not know at this time, but of course, when I do, I will post it here.

Meredith Corp. Contemplating Sale of TV Stations

The other story is that there is a new station on the air here in Nashville, and that is WCTZ-LD channel 35. It broadcasts on channel 35 supposedly at 15kw, that's 5kw more than WKUW channel 40, but right now, they are having trouble with it. So, if you can't receive it right now, that is ok, because they are not broadcasting at their fullest. If you can receive WKUW channel 40, when they do start broadcasting at 15kw in the future, you will probably be able to see it then. When I find out they are, I will post about it then. Also, if you have noticed that WKUW 40 has gotten a little weaker, it has. It must be tied in with WCTZ 35. I'm guessing they had to lower the WKUW signal in order to work on WCTZ. Until more news breaks, that is all for now.

I've noticed when WKUW -LP channel 40 is doing their station ID at the top of the hour they are using the following slide: "Test- DT 99 Community Station,", witch leads me to believe they might be operating under special transmitting authority.

CourtTV Coming to WSMV

CourtTV used to be a cable channel back in the 90s, but now, it is making a comeback as a diginet. It will start on or around May 8th, and it will be airing on WSMV 4.4. I find it a little surprising that WSMV will be airing it as it is owned by E.W. Scripps the owner of WTVF NewsChannel 5. I thought it would air on WTVF. Anyways, I am posting links to all the information below. Like always, if there is any more news, I will post it here.

New Diginet Network Coming

I just saw this article, and since it has ties to Nashville, I thought I would post about it even though right now, at this time, I have no idea which TV station will pick it up, but Gray Television Group will partner with the Grand Ole Opry to begin a broadcast diginet/streaming platform. The new channel will consist of “artist-driven country lifestyle programming.” It will be shown in all of Gray's TV markets, including WBKO in Bowling Green, KY. When and where the new channel will pop up in Nashville, I will post it here as soon as I find out.

Speaking of WBKO, a few yeas ago the had a construction permit to up grade their power, i was wondering what ever became of that?

by "NashDigie" on 4/28/2019 at 8:49PM

Yes, they did apply for more power. To be exact, they are right now at 22kw, and they have applied for an upgrade to 46.5kw and a little boost in height as well (don't know exactly how much on that), but it has yet to be granted by the FCC. Even if it gets granted, they probably won't raise the power until after all this repacking is done, which will probably be sometime in late summer or fall of next year.

WKUW 40 Has Added Another Network

It appears that WKUW channel 40 has gotten rid of the paid programming on 40.3 and has replaced it with the Soul of the South Network. Their website can be accessed here. If anything else changes, I will post it here.
