WSMV and Comet Changes

- Posted October 14th, 2021 at 9:52am
Right now, Comet has been taken off of WZTV RF 20, and it is already on WSMV. That is a little earlier than expected since the last change on Sept. 20th happened at exactly 10am. This time it happened before 10am. As of right now (9:52am), WSMV has not been added on WNAB 3.0 channel yet. I will update this as soon as more changes happens.

Updated 10:08am: - They have now added WSMV to WNAB 3.0.

Updated 10:14am: - CW Nashville was taken off of WNAB 3.0 and has been placed on WUXP 3.0.

Also worth noting for the ATSC 3.0 folks. CW, and MYTV30 are now modulated on QAM64. VS the QAM16 used before. WNAB is using same modulation scheme as before. QAM16/256.

Hello, I am a bit confused. Has the Comet channel been a move to another channel or what exactly? From what I understand they have changed frequencies or sponsors from WZTV to WSMV? I will appreciate a little more of an explanation. Thanks.

I'm sorry that I may have confused you. Comet is still on channel 30.3. What I was talking about is that 30.3 was being broadcasted on WZTV's frequency until today. Today, 30.3 switched frequencies and is now being broadcasted on the same channel that WSMV broadcasts. Again, you will still see Comet on your TV at 30.3. I hope that helped you. If you are still confused or more confused, then please let me know.

I'm glad to hear that.

I've got Comet on 30.3 and 29.8 now.

Did you do a rescan? If you did and it is still there, then I didn't know that they would broadcast Comet on 29. Let me know if it stays or if it goes away.

I've still got Comet on 29.8 and 30.3, so 4.6 probably maps to 30.3 on my Westinghouse and since 29 is basically like the 5.11 through 5.13 I get on RF 5 when the weather is right, 29.1 through 29.5 are carbon copies of 4.1 through 4.5 and Comet maps to 29.8 instead of 29.6 for some reason.

Oh, ok, cool. I thought they wouldn't put it on channel 29, but I guess they are just completely copying WSMV's lineup. I will see what information I can get from WSMV when I e-mail them about this. Keep me updated about channel 29 if something changes.

Will do. Also, is WSMV waiting on the Meredith to Gray sale to close before they do something with 4.2/29.2 and 4.4/29.4?

NashDigie

No, they are not. It is a contract deal. They have a contract to show those channels, and they have to show them until that contract ends. That's all it boils down to.

Since I often lose WSMV (RF 10) at night due to interference. I can usually get the QAM256 modulation of WNAB that now carries WSMV 3.0 at night. So hopefully that will be an option now.

I'm getting Comet on 10.8. Never had any "10 channels" come in before, it just appeared. Currently 30.3 says No Signal.

All you need to do is just to rescan and then everything should be in order. The channel 10 you see is actually the channel that WSMV broadcasts on. The blank 30.3 is the old location where it was broadcasting on WZTV. When your TV automatically picked up the new 30.3 on WSMV, your TV saw that you already had a 30.3 saved so it fell back on channel 10.8. Like I said, just do a rescan, and it will be fine after that.

That did the trick!

I hope to get my channels back in a few days after the rain, as I posted on another post, I have been losing signal from time to time. I found my trouble as it was my antenna, I was using one that was about 20 years old that I bought used 3 years ago when I dropped my cable. It had been repaired with new screws and nuts and a paint job too. I found the screws are rusted and the plastic that hold the elements is cracked badly. I couldn't afford much but did get a new antenna to go up this weekend I hope. It's a GE pro yagi style that supposed to have 80 mile range which I know won't be true. I live in southern Kentucky 1/2 half mile from Tennessee line. I get 64 channels now on my old one when it works ok and the wind ain't blowin to hard moving those elements back and forth.
