WNAB 3.0 Response

- Posted July 30th, 2025 at 10:35am
If you have been following 3.0 channels in Nashville, you have noticed that WNAB's 3.0 channel has been off the air the past several days. That channel hosts WKRN's, WSMV's, and WNAB's "x.1" channels. Well, I have received a response back from the chief engineer over at Sinclair Broadcast Group, the one who has been in charge of broadcasting the 3.0 stations. The response is as below:

"Unfortunately, we have some transmitter repairs to complete. WNAB will be back on the air just as soon as we can obtain the parts from our vendor.

I apologize for the inconvenience and we will have the Transmitter back up as soon as we can. I wish I could give you a time frame but sometimes these things take time."

So there you have it. This is bumming me out a little because yours truly depends on WNAB 3.0 for WKRN because my reception of WKRN's 1.0 channel is pretty much non-existent. Well, until more news breaks, that's all for now.

No it is 25.9. I rechecked again after I made the post yesterday. Just a black screen. When I enter 25.1 I am sent back to 25.9. This time not certain of the message; but a solid black screen.

25.9 has to be WJFB. I know of no channel 25 in Nashville. Could it be a weak signal since it's trying to identify it by its RF channel?

I will keep you posted.....

I did a google AI search and was told that 25.9 is WTVF-DT2 i.e. NewsChannel5+

Is it RF channel 5 in Nashville? It never even crossed my mind if that could be it.

No, it's definitely not WTVF. It is probably somehow WJFB. Have you tried rescanning? If you haven't, they might correct it.

Thanks. I did a rescan and correction was made.

Okay good to see it's fixed. I thought it was WJFB just rescanned as 25.9

Sorry it's caused you issues. I noticed it's been off air for a week. I was using it for WSMV when I couldn't get W14EE, with my Zapperbox for WSMV DRM.

That explains why my ZapperBox was not getting some of the main channels that I watch. Thanks for the info.

I haven't been able to view WKRN or WSMV's ATSC 3.0 for several weeks. Guessing they haven't completed transmitter repairs yet.

I check on it every so often. Looks like it's still down. Something major had to make it go down in the first place.

WSMV's 3.0 had issues that went on for six weeks back in May and June. With my Sony Bravia NextGen TV and ADTH box, it would take 5-8 seconds to tune, freeze after 10 seconds, and unfreeze for about 20 seconds, then rinse and repeat. Fortunately, I have excellent reception of WKRN and WSMV's (4.1 and 4.10) 1.0 signal. But I get even better signal reception from their 3.0.

METV Westerns replacing METV + on 44.6 in late September, METV+ moved to 44.10. Already advertising the change on 44.6.

I just saw that on the HDHomerun. WEST will have programming in late September.

It is September 2nd as I post this and WKRN and WSMV's ATSC 3.0 is STILL down. And the NAB and the TV station conglomerates want to force ATSC 3.0 to replace ATSC 1.0 with this type of unreliability?

WNAB had multiple parts of their transmitter fail and they are waiting for parts. Sometimes it takes weeks just for them to get parts and longer to install it. If it was ATSC 1.0 it would have gone through the same process and would take the same amount of time to get back up. I'm not happy with ATSC 3.0 either since how the broadcasters are treating it but ATSC 3.0 had nothing to do with the station going down. No disrespect is intended, itgrouch.

No disrespect taken Leatherneck97 😊. I appreciate the info update. When there were issues with the signal for both WKRN and WSMV's 3.0 signal back in May/June, I sent an email to the Sinclair engineer about the issue back then and all I received was crickets. Frustrated with not finding when the problem was going to be resolved, I filed an FCC complaint regarding the issue. I dealt with FCC's Media Bureau directly thereafter and the issue was finally resolved. A viewer shouldn't have to contact a station or their engineer or the FCC to determine when there are problems and when they are going to be resolved. The stations need to inform viewers on their web sites. Just my frustrated two cents.

If I had to go through the same process as you I would feel frustrated too, itgrouch. I understand someone going through the official channels to get an issue fixed but having to go through the FCC media bureau to get an issue fixed is insane and unprofessional from any station.

FYI When I do a scan to update my channels I am getting a black screen with "unable to receive signal" at 25.9.

Are you referring to 44.7 Story TV or DABL on 44.9?

brookskc

25.9 still showing up with black screen. Message "No Broadcast Now". When I enter 25.1 I am sent back to 25.9. Will keep you posted.
