WKUW-LD 40 on Reduced Power

- Posted July 30th, 2025 at 1:07pm
Since July 15th, WKUW 40 has been running on reduced power. I emailed w/ no response. That is, until today. Today, they have filed w/ the FCC a Special Temporary Authority (STA) to broadcast at reduced power. Instead of 15kw, they have been broadcasting at just 2.5kw. Below is the reason why.

"The Station’s transmitter’s ERP has been reduced to 2.5kW due to issues with the HVAC, which due to the high temperatures are not allowing the transmitter to operate safely. The Licensee will continue to work diligently with the engineer to facilitate an expeditious return to licensed operations once the transmitter is able to operate safely."

That is what is going on with them. Like always, until more news breaks, that's all for now.

Looks like W35DZ (WCTE 3.0) is off air. Probably because of the PBS Funding cut. I hope WCTE 1.0 isn't next. Also W14EE went off air for a tiny bit, came back with slightly better S/N.

Sucks to see that W35DZ is offline. I know it was a repeat of WCTE but it's an experimental ATSC 3.0 station so it's interesting to see what they will do with it.

W35DZ is back up. It's at 69 signal strength and 91 signal quality. Must have been an issue with the transmitter.

Charge was added to 17.4 as a replacement for Roar. Now it's on 58.3 at the same time as 17.4. I wonder what will replace Charge on 58.3?

Just wondering is this station the same as 44 ? My signal has been bad about a month … before that it was watchable, most of the time…

I can't pick up channel 40, but when I look at the program guide on Titan TV it shows the same stations as 44 ... now I know this guide is incorrect... thanks for the information

WBKO has added H&I to 13.6. It's 720p60. Does anyone know what currently playing on WBGS-LD 34.3 since it's H&I?

I can't pick up WBGS, But this information is from wiki / Tennessee Valley Sports Entertainment Network is listed as 34.3 WBGS... not sure if this is correct ... This network is also on Channel WSMV 4.2 ... I can't pick up channel 4 either.

I just saw that it was changed. I checked earlier yesterday and it wasn't changed yet to TVSEN. So they bumped H&I from WBGS-LD onto WBKO to make room for TVSEN on 34.3.

40.1 is no longer Law and Crime. It is now "Movie Sphere Gold". It is a contemporary movie network. Also, Fubo Sports has more than boxing. It had a card tournament on it this morning.

Speaking of reduced power. Suddenly channel 28 dropped 20 points on my signal meter. Is it just me or are they having some power issues?

Could be anything really. Is this the first time you noticed WNPX is low for you?

It's had it no so great days but never with this low of a signal. At least not that I remember. None of the other channels have changed.

I understand. I don't get WNPX much anymore because I had to move my antenna setup months ago. So I wish I could help but I cannot.

I'm still getting a 100% signal strength here in Gallatin, but it may be because I'm not that far away from their transmitter.

Thanks for the info. Not sure what happened here. Lots of factors involved.

It could be the changing weather causing your setup to no longer be adequate to receive WNPX. I've noticed with the leaves falling has increased my signal since my signals are weaker when I'm atleast 70 miles out from the broadcast towers and WKRN is 80 miles out and only comes in on the ground. Do a Rabbitears search to see if you get WNPX Good, Fair, or Bad. Right now you will possibly see a warning to visit the site but it has been incorrectly flagged as malicious by Google and Safari. It is the same site I use for antenna reception and nothing has changed. https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php

I moved the antenna a few inches and it helped a lot. I still think that they are not at the power they were.

I've used the Rabbit ears site before. Great site!

I'm glad to hear you got it fixed. It could have been moved by anything and it would have reduced your signal.
