WCTZ 35 Operating on Lower Power

- Posted November 21st, 2024 at 3:49pm
I have known that WCTZ has been operating at a lower power since Sunday. Now I know officially via a FCC filing by the station owners. They have filed with the FCC a Special Temporary Authority (STA) to operate at 12kw instead of 15kw because of the following:

"The Station’s transmitter’s ERP has been reduced to 12.0kW due to a bad transmitter compressor. The Licensee will continue to work diligently with the engineer to facilitate an expeditious return to licensed operations once the transmitter is able to operate safely."

So there you have it. How long will this be going on? I do not know. When they do fix it and return to their full power, I will post it. Until then or when more news breaks, that's all for now.

Hopefully they get it fixed in decent time. I will never receive the channel but it would be good for someone who could not receive it now.

Is WKUD-LD 40 also affected? There are times when I can get WCTZ but not WKUD.

Not from what I see on the FCC yet. I know it's only at 10 kW of power.

I don't think so, but they both do use the same broadcasting antenna and WKUW 40, at times, in the past few days, has been going off the air for just a few hours at a time.

That could explain it.

I would expect the issue to be related to the transmitter (ground) equipment. Not the antenna element itself. I'm sure they use GatesAir or the likes for the emitter. But who knows really. lol

As far as I can tell they are completely off the air now. I'm getting zero signal from them now.

Yes, currently both WKUW RF 28/40 and WCTZ RF 35/35 are off the air.

Any idea when they will be back on the air?

Currently, at this time, I do not know. I will try and contact someone to find out, though.
