TrueReal Network Going Away

- Posted March 10th, 2023 at 3:47pm
I just found out that the TrueReal Network is going away (sort of). They will be folding the programming in with the DefyTV network. When this happens, they will lease the channel, WNPX 28.6, out to JewelryTV network. This is going to happen on March 27th, the same day that Decades will be rebranded as Catchy Comedy. I am providing links to both articles below. Until more news breaks, that's all for now.

We have way too many crime channels. But I know my mother will miss Decades going away. She watches Dick Cavett.

This was probably a good move for E.W. Scripps to do combining Defy and True Real but having Jewerly TV on the replacement channel is just another useless channel that exists. I seen that Decades was changing before but it was being talked about in the free satellite forums like on C-band.

WFET-LD is now online repeating WTNX-LD. https://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=Wfet-ld

My wife isn't happy but said she will wait to really be upset after the change and see if any of her shows on True Real go away. She loves the Hauntings and Hoarders the most but watches a lot of others as well. I hope a lot of what she likes stays on Defy, because as they say happy wife happy life.

Things happen. True Real going away was because of the money not being there for that channel.

You totally hit the nail on the head Leatherneck97. It is all about money and how much will a program outlet pay a TV station to carry their programming on one of the station diginets or if the programming originates from the station's owners, it contributes to the station owner's bottom line in ad revenue.

Leatherneck97

It's obvious. A business will do what they can to make money. True Real either was making less money than all the other subchannels or it was losing money so they cut it out. At least it isn't a total loss because they will be moving some programming to Defy TV and will be replacing True Real for now with Jewelry TV. That will definitely bring up their revenue from their losses.

WSMV 104.1 is encrypted on WNAB. It is recorded on RabbitEars.info. https://rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=Wnab

Sadly, yes, I just found out over there on the AVS Forum. I am just SO glad, for now, that it's not WKRN 102.1 on WNAB that is encrypted because WKRN 1.0 is not reliable for me. Thank you.

Leatherneck97
- Posted on April 10th, 2023 at 11:38pm

You're welcome. Luckily enough where I live I have to get WKRN on the ground with a medium sized antenna on the inside.

xmguy

I already can't get WSMV RF 10 at night. Then they cut off the ONLY other way for me to get it. Since they don't have W14EE at full power, after dark, when the LED street lights come on, then WSMV is gone. Having to rely on WAFF from Huntsville for NBC.

That's why I do not understand why any channel at all would encrypt their signal espically since it is a major news station and not any other channel.

xmguy

May reasons. All to benefit them. DMA (Nielsen), or Geo-Restrictions, Copying/Recording, local encryption, and more.

Leatherneck97

I thought of some of the things you said except for the geo-restricion. It still sucks that it is encrypted.

I know it's not going anywhere. All i can say.

On my tv Scripps News is now on 28.6 and the Jewelry Channel is on 28.7.

Brentwood OTA

Not just your TV. I failed to notice when I was channel surfing the other day that 28's progression moved from Grit to Defy, skipping Laff. They must have been adjusting their channel lineup at the time, but with Laff back in its place, Scripps News is on 28.6 and the Jewelry Channel is on 28.7.

Gray Television, the owner of WBKO, has added Oxygen True Crime to its lineup on the 13.5 channel sometime today or yesterday.

I live in Monroe county just about 50 miles south east of Bowling Green. I recently am having trouble pulling in WBKO 13 at times and even when I do the signal isnt as strong as it used to be. Ch 40 WNKY is now stronger for me to receive, at one time it was harder to pull in.

FalseFake couldn't make it as a channel because over half of the OTA networks are true crime or reality based. Once revenues dry up, they always return to the tried and true…”CSI: Miami,” “Forensic Files,” or HSN/QVC/JTV. Catchy Comedy is essentially MeTV3.. I loved the historical aspects of Decades. Sometimes I want my weekend binges to feature dramas.

Leatherneck97

I know you don't like the changes but at least antenna isn't constantly changing like C-Band. Sometimes channels will just disappear and sometimes they are permanent.

Leatherneck97

Is anyone out of the Bowling Green, KY market having trouble receiving WBKO lately? Since that really bad storm came through that one time I cannot lock WBKO during the day like I used to. I have changed nothing in my setup and has been the same for over a year since I found a place for it which is in the attic.

botts_w
- Posted on May 9th, 2023 at 5:33am

I don't receive it as good as I once did, channel 40 is better for me now than 13.

n2radio
- Posted on May 9th, 2023 at 12:11pm

I have not had any more issues with WBKO than normal in the last year. They were much were reliable before the analog cutover back in 20089 when they broadcast their DT signal on RF33. Since the cut to digital on 13, it's always been prone to interference especially at night due to atmospheric conditions. However, I live within about 10 miles of their transmitter so it's mostly consistent. I also receive WBGS-LD (RF34) which is solid during the day, but breaks up a lot during the nighttime hours. I suspect it could be getting interference from distant signals which low power stations cannot avoid.

Leatherneck97
- Posted on May 9th, 2023 at 5:46pm

I figured it was a transmitter problem instead of my setup. I cannot receive WBGS-LD at all during the day but at one time I messed around with a DB8E antenna to see if I could get it from Bowling Green, KY and I only got it at night at 50 percent. So that was out of the question. I have to rely on WBKO to receive ABC and FOX from Bowling Green but I get WZTV and WKRN for ABC and FOX for now.

Ron2020
- Posted on May 8th, 2023 at 11:16am

I can't get it on channel 13, but I am able to pick up them on channel channel 34.2, their sister channels I guess

Leatherneck97
- Posted on May 8th, 2023 at 5:37pm

I'm too far from Bowling Green to WBGS-LD reliably. I didn't know if it was something on my end or on the broadcasters end that was causing me to not receive WBKO.

Ron2020
- Posted on May 9th, 2023 at 9:47pm

Well that all depends I'm here in Franklin, like I said I get WBKO on the channel 34.2, most of the time, and some of the other Bowling Green channels also, but I don't get channel 40 wnky too good for some reason, and I get quite a few of the Nashville channels at times, so I like 30 something miles from Nashville you're only Kentucky Tennessee line

That's true. I also live more Eastern than you do too. I live near Tompkinsville, KY.
