Tomorrow is ATSC 3.0 Day!

- Posted June 22nd, 2020 at 3:35pm
Well, even though that ATSC 3.0 (Nextgen TV) is tomorrow, WZTV and WKRN have already been making preparations. WKRN has added 58.1 CW58 to their broadcasting channel, but nothing is on it right now. Also, WZTV has added WUXP MyTV 30 to theirs as 30.1 WUXP-MY, 30.2 Get-TV, and 30.3 Comet, and they are broadcasting the content as well. They're not blank like WKRN's CW58. WTVF was broadcasting placeholders for WNAB 58.2-58.4, but they took them off last week. Right now, they aren't broadcasting them. Well, that is all the news I have for you. Of course, I will be posting more of this news as it comes along. Have a great day everyone.

Updated 7:45pm: - I just found out some 3.0 news. WZTV will show their main channel (Fox 17) on WUXP's 3.0 channel and show their TBD subchannel on WNAB's 3.0 channel. Also, WNAB will not air any of their subchannels in 3.0.

Updated 8:35pm: - I just happen to see that WZTV has removed WUXP's 1.0 channels from their broadcasting channel. Now, this maybe the last update to this post unless something big happens, because there will probably be a lot of changes between now and tomorrow morning. So, that's all for now.

Last night, side by side WUXP's channels were noticeably degraded for the those shared with WZTV. Same for WNAB (shared with WKRN and WTVF). The HD feed for WZTV 17-1 looks worse, but it's not quite as noticeable for WTVF 5-1 or WKRN 2-1. Pay attention to how sharp, or in the case now - lack of sharpness, the fine print is on commercials.

You can get a tuner that is 3.0 capable from Silicon Dust. HomeRun 4K. They are around $200. I have one, I use it in McMinnville. I can't decode beyond the main feed channels on each transmitter. So real channel 21 WUXP is MyTV30. Real Channel 30 is TBD. The others in the 3.0 signal I can't receive due to distance, and maybe antenna height.

I happened to read your comment. I have had the HDHomerun 4K for about a few months now. When I first received it, I thought all I could see was MyTV 30 and TBD as well, but after I updated the hdhomerun_config_gui software, all I had to do was checkmark some boxes, and I was then able to see all of the other subchannels. I am including an URL to a pic showing what I am talking about. You may have already known about this, but if you didn't, you can try this. Let me know if you have any questions about it. I would be glad to help. https://nashvilledtvnews.info/ATSC_3_0_Signal.png
