Repack Update - WZTV and WNAB

- Posted October 15th, 2019 at 3:13pm
Well, I may have some bad news for some people. Both WZTV FOX 17 and WNAB CW 58 are not going to be able to change to their permanent signal this Friday. Because of tower crew delays and equipment delays, when they do change frequencies this Friday, both WZTV and WNAB will go to a temporary antenna at temporary power. They will both be using the same broadcasting antenna. WNAB will be going 48 meters down the tower to the temporary antenna and going from 350kw down to just 130kw. Also, WZTV will be going 91 meters down the tower to the same antenna and going from 1000kw all the way down to either 68.43kw or 47.4kw. The reason I have two power readings for WZTV is because they applied for 68.43kw, but they have, in their documents with the application, listed it at 47.4kw. So, I don't know which one is correct. Any way you slice it, a great number of people, probably including myself, will have a problem receiving these channels whether it be a barely there signal or no signal at all. They have also applied to extend their permanent construction permits for another six months until April 18th. That doesn't necessarily mean they will wait until April of next year. That means at anytime in the next six months, they can have their equipment delivered and installed. Then they can go to their full power, WZTV at 1000kw and WNAB at 725kw. Until more news breaks, that is all I have for you right now.

Not that many tower crews are available, considering the massive amount of work to be done. Transmitter manufacturers cannot keep up with the demand. This whole repack mess is all the FCC's fault. The National Association of Broadcasters warned them but their concerns fell on deaf ears. Cellular 5g implementation is the FCC's top priority.
