If any of you have been wondering what has happened to Cookeville's WCTE's 3.0 station, W35DZ. It has been since Sept. 14th that the station has been off the air. Well, now I have the news on it. They have filed w/ the FCC for a silent special temporary authority (STA) to remain off the air. I am including what they said in the filing below. Until more news breaks, that's all for now.
"W35DZ-D was forced to shutdown its transmitter on
September 14, 2026 in order to avoid catastrophic failure of its amplifiers due to the complete
loss of coolant flow. Initial tests indicated that refilling the coolant might fix the issue, however
further investigation has determined that significant materials deterioration and blockage of
coolant flow inside the transmitters distribution system has occurred. This requires the
complete replacement of much of the tubing and its fitting as well as flushing of all components
in the cooling circuit. The facility awaits parts and guidance from the manufacturer in South
Korea which is expected within the next 30 to 60 days."
