Interesting! Possible Sinclair/Scripps Merger

- Posted November 17th, 2025 at 2:37pm
I have found the article, which is linked below, very interesting. Just so you know that E.W. Scripps owns both WTVF NewsChannel5 and WNPX and the networks WNPX airs except for HSN and QVC while Sinclair owns WZTV Fox 17 and WUXP MyTV 30 and operates WNAB 58. Right now, it is only in the talk phase. As the article states if there will be a merger, the deal will be done in nine to twelve months. You can read more about it by clicking the link below. Until more news breaks, that's all for now.

I read about it too. It would be not beneficial for the public to have 3 companies own everything. It just leads to more greed and less programming on TV overall.

If this merger does occur, there will need to be sell-offs in markets where too many stations would be owned. That hasn't changed.

The broadcast companies are trying to change that by pressuring the FCC to change the rules so they can have more stations and keep all of their stations.

Yes, as they have for many many years. Over that time, broadcasters have been successful in raising in stages the number of stations that could be owned in a single market. It's higher, but there's still a limit in force. Maybe that could change before this merger can happen, but that's doubtful at this point. Mergers can also be granted with stipulations that stations be sold under the limit "to protect the public interest". It's a tough fight, because attorneys will always point to the limit the law allows. But it can happen if the corporations don't want to wait out the extra time it would take for hearings, in-person court appearances, etc., and especially if there's some less profitable stations that corp may want to unload.
