Flurry of Updates

First, I would like to say Happy New Year. Also, one or two of these updates could have been posted a little earlier. So, sorry about that. Now onto the updates.

I have now updated the links on the home page of the website by adding links that will lead you to websites where you can donate in the efforts to help in wake of the Nashville Bombing. I am sorry for not updating this sooner.

News on Meredith Corporation

A while back, I speculated by an article that WSMV may be up for sale in the future. Well, now Meredith Corp., owner of WSMV, has sold four of its TV stations, none of which are WSMV, but in this article, they have said that Meredith is also considering selling its entire station group. It also goes on to say that Meredith has been unsure of its broadcasting future ever since its planned merger with Media General collapsed in 2016. So, I don't know when or if WSMV will be sold, but as soon as I find out something I will let you know.

Scripps's ION Acquisition Completed

I have just learned today, via the below articles, that Scripps's, owner of WTVF NewsChannel 5, Acquisition of ION Media and all of their TV stations, including WNPX, has been completed. They still have to file with the FCC to get their approval of ownership. What this holds for the future of both WTVF and WNPX, I don't know right now, but ION will now be a part of Scripp's ample amount of networks which includes CourtTV, Newsy, Bounce, Grit, Laff, and Court TV Mystery.

WJFB's Application Granted

WJFB's FCC application to move their broadcast antenna to northern Nashville antenna farm has been granted. It expires in three years, but it won't take them that long. In my opinion, if nothing goes wrong and they go full steam ahead with this, they will be broadcasting from there by either this summer or fall or even sooner. I will post as soon as I hear anything new about their move.

I am now finished with the updates. I hope you were able to digest all that. If you have any thoughts about these updates, just leave a comment below. Until more news breaks, that's all for now.

Is the possible sale of WSMV why they are the only major broadcaster in Nashville without a ATSC 3.0 channel? As far as Ion. If they dump Ion+ which is pointless and also dump the shopping channels they could use Ion station to host 2 SD sub channels each currently on WKRN and WZTV so those stations and up the bandwidth for the HD channels, offering better PQ.

WSMV is not a part of the current 3.0 rollout because the owner, Meredith Corp., is not a member of the Pearl TV Group, which is a group of several TV broadcasting companies including Sinclair, Nexstar, and others that are partaking in the ATSC 3.0 current rollout. As for Ion, I read somewhere that once those other networks' (i.e. CourtTV, Bounce, Grit, Laff, and Court TV Mystery) carriage agreements are up, they will remove them from non-Scripps owned stations and place them on the Ion station in the same TV market. Now, I don't know for sure if I read that correctly or not. Don't quote me on that.

Well moving all those to ION would free up bandwidth on Ch 2 and 5 which hopefully results in better PQ

Since this seems to be a general update, I'll add a couple of comments about other happenings. 31 (WJDE) has added yet another subchannel, Estrella, Spanish programming. http://www.estrellatv.com/

Thanks for that update. Since I live about 50-60 miles from Nashville, I am unable to receive WJDE. Keep me updated.

I hadn't been able to receive 6 (WRTN) since their switch to RF-8. I rescanned recently and got a weak signal, but sufficient for receiving it. Several of their subs had "normal" problems (frozen picture, black screen, "No Signal!" image [from satellite dish]). I emailed Rick (station owner), and he said he'd look into the problems. Also "We will be on 17 this spring when we can get a tower crew up there."

Yeah, I hadn't received them on RF 8 as well. In the past, I kept e-mailing him about when he will switch to RF 17, and he would reply with "I have nothing new." So, I just stopped e-mailing because I thought I sounded like a little kid saying "Are we there yet?, Are we there yet?, etc." Keep me updated also on this.
