Bowling Green News and More

- Posted May 15th, 2023 at 10:28am
First, I would like to say sorry that I haven't been posting any news lately. Between work and other things, I have let things go on here, but right now, I am posting about some updates to some Bowling Green channels. First bit of news is that WDNZ 11, awhile back, applied to the FCC to change channels from 11 to 8. That still hasn't been granted by the FCC yet, but Marquee Broadcasting, the owner of WNKY 40 and WNKY-LD, has now bought WDNZ. Thanks to Ron2020, he has found out the former owners, Daily News Broadcasting, is still operating the station at this time. When Marquee takes over, I do not know. When I find out any more about WDNZ, I will post about it. The second bit of news is about WNKY-LD 16. Now they have applied to change channels from 16 to 35 and broadcast, of course, at their Smiths Grove tower, where WNKY 40 broadcasts. It will be broadcasting at 15kw. Click here for their broadcasting range. In my opinion, this will be causing interference with the reception of WCTZ-LD 35, located in Nashville, for people located north and northeast of Nashville. It has not been, right now, granted by the FCC. When any more news comes out, I will post about it. Now, the last bit of Bowling Green news is about the channel 29 permit that Rick of WRTN holds. Because of WKGB operating on channel 29, he has applied to change channels from 29 to 26. Right now, that granted permit has an expiration date set in September. He can either bring it on the air or change something about it between now and then. Click here for their broadcasting range. I don't know if this will cause any interference with WNTU-LD 26 Nashville with people between Nashville and Bowling Green or not. I don't know, and again, if there is any more news about it, I will post it.

As far as I know right now, there is no news about Nashville channels. Also, I don't know when, but sometime in the future, I will be taking the time to overhaul this site, to update it, but I will try and keep the news flowing as it comes along. Thanks for everyone who has contributed news here. I really do appreciate it. Like always, until more news breaks, that's all for now.

Glad to see you had an update post to see what was going on in the Bowling Green market and I'm glad to see you update again after 2 months. I did not know that WNKY-LD and W35DZ will be on the same RF frequency. I think they will interfere so one channel will have to change based on the coverage of both channels at 15 KWs of power.

Nice updates. Glad you took a well needed break. :) I drove to Algood today to check out W14EE. It's got a pilot (RF) signal. But no symbol quality, or PSIP. So basically dead air. Not sure when they'll be up to 15kW. But right now, there is nothing but a raw signal.

I hope they get it up to 15 kW of power soon. Glad to see you checked it out.

I know here in Monroe county, WBKO has got a lot weaker lately but I can still get it but Wnky is stronger here for me.

WBKO is having power troubles since a storm came through here sometime ago. I cannot receive it during the day anymore so I have to rely on WKRN for ABC programming and WZTV for FOX programming.

For some reason, I'm having a hard time getting any channels on my antenna I don't know what the problem is, sometimes I can get 60 channels and other times I can't hardly get six or 12, of course I live 20 miles from my closest TV station so I don't know

Is it occuring during the night? If it is then it is tropospheric ducting so that is why your signals will not come in sometimes.

Seems like I have a hard time picking up stuff during the day, then I do at night, right now it's coming so good I'm getting a bunch of channels, I'm just wondering to boosters work

You need boosters for your channels? It could be overamplifying your signals. That could cause them to go out.

WNKY-LD was approved to go on the air as of today, July 10th, 2023. https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/dataentry/public/tv/draftCopy.html?displayType=html&appKey=25076ff388ea75f001893b49b02c2a30&id=25076ff388ea75f001893b49b02c2a30&goBack=N

Yeah, I saw that. That means that they should be broadcasting right now at 15kw. Are you able to receive them?

I tried last night to get it but it was pending at that time I'll check now. I think I'm close enough to get WNKY-LD. EDIT: I have not had any luck of getting the repeator so it isn't up yet or it is not at full power.

I have an outdoor antenna and live fairly close to the WNKY broadcast tower (5 miles). Unfortunately, my antenna is currently out of service after wind damage to the tower structure and antenna. I hope to have it repaired this week. At this time, I've only been able to check with rabbit ears. However, the indoor signal for WNKY and WNKY-LD are both non-existent. It will be interesting to see how much interference there is for WNKY-LD (35) considering WCTZ-LD (35) is often watchable in the evening at my house. I also find it interesting both WNKY-LD and WCTZ-LD are broadcast on RF 35 and both are licensed to Bowling Green, KY.

I finally have my antenna service restored after 100 mph winds took down my antenna by what the NWS is calling a "macro-burst" straight line wind thunderstorm about 3 weeks ago. Due to antenna availability right now, I am using a Channel Master EXTREMEtenna80. It seems to do a great job of pulling in distant signals. However, it is multi-directional so I appear to be catching interference from signals on the back side of the antenna that I did not receive before with the directional CM Ultra High Crossfire 100. Late yesterday afternoon was my first chance to watch WNKY-LD. I am 6 air miles from the WNKY transmitter site and could barely catch a signal for WNKY-LD (RF35) for a short period of time. However, I can confirm it is a complete simulcast of WNKY 40 (RF24). I think they could be running at very low power or possibly it's not transmitting from very high up on their tower yet. As I suggested previously, it could also be interference from WCTZ-LD (also RF35). Unless they improve the signal, WNKY-LD will be broadcasting to the cows and Buc-ee's (coming soon) nearby their transmitter.

Thanks for confirming that the station is on the air and broadcasting WNKY. I'm glad you have antenna service back so you can watch television again.
