ATSC 3.0 Update: WUXPs New Channels

- Posted October 1st, 2024 at 3:45pm
For most of you that don't know about ATSC 3.0 (Nextgen TV), you probably might not understand this post, but WUXP's 3.0 channel has added a "DEMO" channel which is just simulcasting CW Nashville at the lowest modulation. They have also added back 15 different radio stations, some local and some just networks, but here's the thing, they are not broadcasting any audio on those channels right now. You all may already know this information either by finding out yourself or by reading Leatherneck97's earlier comment. Sorry for being late on this news. I just haven't gotten around to posting until now, but if any more news breaks, I will try and post it as soon as I either find out myself or as soon as someone alerts me to it. Until then, that's all for now.

I'm glad you reported on the new channels. I don't know why they would add the radio channels and not play anything. I didn't know it was the CW here because there are no identifying marks on the channel. Just a clean screen and no graphics. EDIT: For some reason it's not exactly playing the CW channel but just test content that would play on the CW. Could be related to NXT being on the CW tonight.

There is now audio on the radio stations. At least when played via the HomeRun Config GUI, and VLC on my PC.

I performed a re-scan to get the CW "DEMO" channel and the radio channels on my Sony Bravia XR TV and ADTH box, and noticed that I get an error on the Sony TV attempting to tune WSMV and WTVF's ATSC 3.0 channels, with it giving me the message "Cannot view channel because the TV’s license is being updated or another problem has occurred." and just a blank screen on the ADTH. I sent an email to WTVF's chief engineer detailing the issue. Both the Sony and the ADTH are connected to the internet.

Just to close out my old post. After about a week, the DRM encryption error message issue "magically" went away.

For me, I can get audio on *some* of the radio channels. Also my Zinwell, and Zapperbox try to tune in the DEMO channel using QAM256, vs qPSK. Where the HR4K can tune them all in (minus encryption). On that matter. Since they changed this. They upped the code rate to a point I cannot get any channels (11/15) on my ZB or Zinwell. I've given up on 3.0 til they go back to 9/15. I too wrote the chief engineer of WTVF. He said he'd try and get info and get back to me. Nothing new as of yet. I really hope it's temporary. DRM or not, before I had a WAY to watch WTVF OTA, now I don't, unless early day, or night.

Anyone else having content protection issues for WSMV 3.0 since these changes? I was able to handle the DRM last Monday (9/30), but not tonight. Haven’t checked much/any in between those times, and I don’t get a strong enough signal for WTVF to check if I can get other DRM stations on my ADTH box

Xmguy is having issues with it also. He responded here about the issue.

WUXP 3.0 (RF 21) is back to normal. Radio stations gone, back to 9/15 code rate.

Same here. I’m able to get all the 3.0 channels, and the 17-20 demo is gone.

The music channels are “back”. The signal configuration is currently still the same. I wrote the engineer for WUXP (21). Begging him to leave WTVF 3.0 at the 9/15 code rate. When I use the quotes on the music channels being back. There is nothing on them. Hopefully they’ll decide to use PLP0 at QAM16, or perhaps a new PLP all together. I didn’t buy a Zapperbox for nothing.

On my Sony Bravia XR ATSC 3.0 set, I am seeing in the channel list, DDAAS and 0.0. I have read up on the DDaaS (Data Distribution as a Service) in ATSC 3.0, I am guessing there is some testing going on.
